The follow-up to the smash hit The Silence of the Lambs features Anthony Hopkins returning to one of his most well-known roles as Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Julianne Moore (Boogie Nights, Magnolia) steps in for Jodie Foster’s FBI agent Clarice Starling, who is under fire for a botched drug raid until a wealthy “beneficiary” pulls strings to get her back on the search for Lecter. Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy) plays the majorly disfigured sole survivor of the devious doctor’s ways who wants Starling to lead Lecter back to him to carry out a sadistic revenge.
Predator 2 is on the menu, and while it’s probably not the best movie for generating jolly holiday spirit (see above), it serves up a wholesome platter of action and blood. To watch Predator 2 is to take a trip back to the early 90s, where bright neon was all the rage, gangbangers looked like gay strippers, and Gary Busey was still making the rounds. Yikes!
If you are already familiar with the MASSACRE MARATHON you might have noticed I tend to watch and review some movies I have previously seen. From now on I will do a better job indicating which films are not virgin endeavors at the start of the review. The reason for the repeats is that I don’t want to miss out on classics and favorites every season just for the sake of charting new horror territory. Coincidentally, the characters in tonight’s film find out just how dangerous probing into unidentified territory can be. The territory of our creators, specifically.
