The Hole is a horror-lite film directed by Joe Dante (Gremlins, Small Soldiers) about a MENACING black void discovered in the basement of new neighbors Dane and Lucas. The girl next door tells them about a weird old man who lived there before them. The man disappeared, but his legacy remains…

I AM THE PRETTY THING THAT LIVES IN THE HOUSE
Netflix’s newest addition to their massive catalog of originals dropped a couple of nights ago, just in time for Halloween. The trailer didn’t pique my interest but with my list of HORROR available to stream near depleted, I decided to give it a chance.
TRICK ‘R TREAT
♆♆♆
Trick ‘r Treat is a Halloween staple. It is the embodiment of the holiday, just like its mascot Sam (pictured above) is the manifestation of Halloween himself. The film ties a handful of terror-ific tales together brilliantly into an anthology that invokes laughs, SCREAMS, and everything in between.
THE FINAL GIRLS
The Final Girls (not to be confused with Final Girl) is a comedy/horror film about the daughter, Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story), of a washed up scream queen, Malin Akerman (Watchmen). Max always admired her mother’s work, even when Nancy didn’t herself. When Nancy passes away, Max agrees to make an appearance at a film festival showcasing her mother’s films. A disaster ensues and Max, along with a few friends, get magically transported into her mother’s movie “Camp Bloodbath”.
THE CONJURING 2
After feeling lukewarm about The Conjuring, I wasn’t in a rush to see the cleverly titled sequel The Conjuring 2. I anticipated the same type of bullshit Insidious: Chapter 3 tried to pull, but I figured since I just saw Sinister 2 this would kind of follow the theme, being they are both recent sequels to popular horror movies. Would this be a cheap cash grab or would it turn out alright?
HALLOWEEN: THE CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS
One might think I of all people would be thrilled to watch a movie with Halloween in the title, but I certainly was apprehensive of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. If you have experienced the hogwash on display in 4 and 5 you understand why I was concerned. Halloween: TCoMM, or more simply Halloween 6, takes place yet again in the town of Haddonfield where, yet again, Michael Myers returns to cause a ruckus during his favorite holiday.
THE TINGLER
♆♆♆
Vincent Price. True icon of classic horror. A household name. William Castle. Creator of westerns turned schemer of the macabre. A legend among men. Together they formed a tag team of pure gold. In 1959 they presented to the world The Tingler.
PREDATOR 2
Predator 2 is on the menu, and while it’s probably not the best movie for generating jolly holiday spirit (see above), it serves up a wholesome platter of action and blood. To watch Predator 2 is to take a trip back to the early 90s, where bright neon was all the rage, gangbangers looked like gay strippers, and Gary Busey was still making the rounds. Yikes!
INFERNO
I’m beginning to think Italian horror is not for me. These “classics” made by “legends” are turning out to be way over hyped, even from a cult following standpoint. First, I was disappointed with Cannibal Holocaust. Now, I am flabbergasted by Italian “horror pioneer” Dario Argento’s Inferno.
NIGHT 21 (IT FOLLOWS)
Night 21 came around and I decided to revisit what I consider an instant classic. It Follows is such a well made thrill I just had to bump its score up from a 4. I realized that, apart from my few initial nitpicks, it has so much to offer to a genre lacking originality and deserves a better grade. Some love it, some hate it, but if you ever have the chance to see It Follows be sure to give it a view. Hopefully you will enjoy it as much as I did. Without further ado, I present to you the first ever updated Movie Manster review…
