THE BLAIR THUMB ft. Chopping Mall + You Might Be the Killer

The “Thumb Parodies” are somewhat of a curious personal legend. All the way back in 2008, when I first joined Netflix, the series caught my eye and I added the short films to my queue. Ever since then, they have been there waiting, watching me as I added more and more movies in front of them on my list. Well, today they are ignored no longer. I have finally rented The Blair Thumb.

Resident Evil is the film adaptation of the survival horror video game of the same name, and with a tagline like “Survive the horror!” you might think it follows closely to the source material. On the contrary, the film takes a very different approach compared to the first game. As a matter of fact, none of the characters from any of the games appear in the movie (to my knowledge). Knowing that, most would assume the film would flop and be forgotten quickly. Well, I’m here to tell you, despite poor reviews, Resident Evil sturdily cements its place in game-to-movie history.

28 DAYS LATER

Danny Boyle’s (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting) 2002 British zombie horror 28 Days Later is a benchmark in the history of the genre. I remember seeing this for the first time over a decade ago. Even at a young age I noticed how it stood out from the other schlock and set the base standard for what modern zombie-themed productions (like The Walking Dead) are today. It is what I would call Boyle’s most important and impressive film to date. It was released at a pivotal point in The Manster’s life, that’s for sure. Many would consider this, along with the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead, to be what made The Manster who he is today!
