Mom and Dad took me by surprise with its speedy approach and upfront humor. Nicolas Cage (Color Out of Space, anything he can get his hands on) and Selma Blair (Hellboy, The Sweetest Thing) star as typical heads of the household who get swept up in a whirlwind of mass hysteria that causes parents to stop at nothing to eliminate their offspring. Written and directed by Brian Taylor, the creator of the Crank movies, so you know you’re in for a wild ride!

THE CONJURING 2
After feeling lukewarm about The Conjuring, I wasn’t in a rush to see the cleverly titled sequel The Conjuring 2. I anticipated the same type of bullshit Insidious: Chapter 3 tried to pull, but I figured since I just saw Sinister 2 this would kind of follow the theme, being they are both recent sequels to popular horror movies. Would this be a cheap cash grab or would it turn out alright?
CRIMSON PEAK
Crimson Peak markets itself as a dark, brooding horror story set in a creepy old house haunted by ghosts. To my surprise, it turned out to be nothing but a romance story with little to justify itself as horror. Sure, grotesque ghosts float through the halls of Allerdale Hall, but they are only afterthoughts in this film mainly concerned with soap opera twists and pulling on heartstrings.
