Patty Jenkins’s (Wonder Woman) directorial debut Monster is a dramatization of the crimes committed by serial killer Aileen Wuornos, a prostitute who gunned down more than a few of her johns 30 years ago in Florida. It released in 2003 with Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road, Bombshell) winning a slew of Best Actress awards for her portrayal of Wuornos. The film beats out Bone Tomahawk for the least-horror choice this MASSACRE MARATHON so far, which isn’t surprising to me since I knew she killed with guns (as opposed to more traditional slasher weapons) going in. Still, I thought the movie might have been more thrilling.

DANIEL ISN’T REAL ft. Summer of 84 + Only Lovers Left Alive
Daniel Isn’t Real is a psychological horror film featuring the “talent” of Miles Robbins (Halloween, Blockers) and Patrick Schwarzenegger (Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse). It’s about a boy who locks away his imaginary friend after something awful happens only for him to suddenly return years later.
EVIL DEAD ft. Terrifier + Creep 2
Evil Dead, not be confused with The Evil Dead, is first-time writer/director Fede Alvarez’s 2013 semi-remake of the 1981 Sam Raimi classic. Dumb poster tagline aside, it’s an adept interpretation of the original. Nu-Dead didn’t fully hit the mark for me, but it stills reaches the lofty goal of my rewatchable zone.
From director Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men: The Last Stand), Red Dragon is the third film in the “Lecter Trilogy” and the prequel to The Silence of the Lambs. Starring Edward Norton (American History X, Birdman), Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel, Schindler’s List), and of course Anthony Hopkins, the movie reveals how Hannibal Lecter was originally caught and tells the story of “The Tooth Fairy” serial killer. FBI agent Will Graham is brought out of retirement to hunt down the fiend who only kills families during a full moon. Once again the audience is treated to a dialogue with Lecter who is equal parts helpful and hindering with the investigation.
