THE PRODIGY ft. Hereditary + Aftershock

Not the way I wanted to kick off my favorite season of the year. Despite the low expectations of a quarantined October, The Prodigy made me feel even worse.  Alas, I am excited to be released from my chains yet again to bring you horror movie madness all month long with 2020’s incarnation of the MASSACRE MARATHON!!!

The past two years I’ve held onto my marathon results, waiting for the perfect time to unleash my opinions into the putrid air of this hellscape we call home. Well, I no longer prolong…err…! Each night I will be bringing forth, in addition to the main feature, not one but TWO bonus reviews from the not so distant past. These extra musings will most likely only be snippets due to time constraints, but in the future I plan on giving the love and attention deserved to those films that are lucky enough to be rewatched.

RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION

“All Bets Are Off”. Wow, not the tagline I would choose. That sounds like they are giving up on the franchise and just putting out whatever crap they can slap together. It’s a nod to Las Vegas, since that’s where the characters eventually end up, but it still doesn’t put forth a pleasant image. It undercuts the over-the-top but fun action film Resident Evil: Extinction provides.

H.H. HOLMES: AMERICA’S FIRST SERIAL KILLER

This was my official documentary of the season; I usually try to review at least one MORBID true tale every October. I believe I can keep this short and sweet, much like H.H. Holmes: AFSK did. Continue reading

THE TAKING OF DEBORAH LOGAN

The_Taking_of_Deborah_Logan

I’ve had this movie on my radar for some time now. I was going to save it for this upcoming October but I realized I tend to say that about every horror movie on my list and that turns in to me not watching the genre as much as I would like. Also, I came across a jarring gif on the internet that had me stunned. When I found out it was from The Taking of Deborah Logan the movie got bumped to the top of my list!

I wasn’t necessarily expecting a found footage film when it started, but I think I’m so numbed to the sub-genre that it didn’t phase me at all. It wasn’t a typical shaky-cam intro, however. The beginning hosted the makings of a faux documentary and served as a great set-up. A medical student is filming her thesis on Alzheimer’s Disease and its effects on not only the victim, but the family and friends in close proximity. Deborah descends into the snares of the disease at a rapid pace, almost too quickly. The film crew witnesses some inexplicable events and begins to question what is really happening with Mrs. Logan.

ARMY OF DARKNESS

Part 1: The Evil Dead

Part 2: Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn

♆♆♆- I have already seen this movie.

The third and final leg of Ash’s adventure, Army of Darkness, sees him (and his car) being transported back in time to the year 1300 AD. He is immediately discovered by a battalion of knights and brought as a prisoner to their castle. After proving he is not an enemy, the community relies on Ash and his knowledge of technology to stop the advances of the ancient evil dead. The 1992 film stars Bruce Campbell yet again, alongside Embeth Davidtz (Schindler’s List) in her first big American movie role.

THE EVIL DEAD

♆♆♆- I have already seen this movie.

The classic of camp, Sam Raimi’s prized possession, The Evil Dead kicked off this year’s Halloween MASSACRE MARATHON trilogy! That’s right! I am not only reviewing the masterpiece that launched Raimi’s career, I’m taking on both sequels that followed! First, I would like to thank everyone that stopped by this season, whether it was for one review or you’ve been following my whole horrific journey this past month. I’m obviously not making any money from this, I’m not promoting for some company, I’m doing the MASSACRE MARATHON for myself and for my readers! It’s great fun to have a whole month dedicated to my favorite genre of film, but it is also hard work writing reviews for every day in October. I am proud to announce this year is the first year I have successfully written a review for every day and every movie in the MASSACRE MARATHON and let me tell you it feels great looking at that calender and seeing every single DAMN DAY highlighted! Now, without further ado…

EDEN LAKE

eden-lake-movie-poster-2008-1020451667

Eden Lake is story without the supernatural. No aliens, no vampires, no zombies. The only monsters here inhabit this small town on the outskirts of the woods. They look like us, but do not be fooled- there is no telling what they are capable of. Don’t mess with them.

ABCs OF DEATH 2

ABCs of Death 2 was one of my most anticipated films of October, along with V/H/S: Viral and Annabelle. I couldn’t wait to see which select theaters would be playing ABCs 2 so I bit the $9.99 bullet and rented it On Demand. Let’s just say if V/H/S turns out to be good it will complete a nice little “trifecta”.
