The Den is a film composed entirely of computer screen footage following a girl’s journey through the dark corners of the internet. She’s doing a study on the movie’s titular website, The Den, when she encounters a sadist who is just getting started with his new killing spree. The website is presented as a Chatroulette/Skype video chatting system. Apart from the site itself, you can see the full interactions of the girl’s desktop, as if you were sitting at her computer yourself.

EDEN LAKE
Eden Lake is story without the supernatural. No aliens, no vampires, no zombies. The only monsters here inhabit this small town on the outskirts of the woods. They look like us, but do not be fooled- there is no telling what they are capable of. Don’t mess with them.
ABCs OF DEATH 2
ABCs of Death 2 was one of my most anticipated films of October, along with V/H/S: Viral and Annabelle. I couldn’t wait to see which select theaters would be playing ABCs 2 so I bit the $9.99 bullet and rented it On Demand. Let’s just say if V/H/S turns out to be good it will complete a nice little “trifecta”.
CRY_WOLF
I had a scary realization the other day when I added this movie to my Netflix queue. I had been meaning to watch this movie since it was in theaters. Cry_Wolf came out in 2005. That was NINE years ago! I was in middle school! I guess I really did have a thing for horror at a young age. I’m feeling so old right now. After almost a decade it was time to see if Cry_Wolf was really worth taking in after such a long gap in time.
FINAL DESTINATION 2
This movie is an embarrassment. Hot on the heels of its predecessor, Final Destination 2 aims to cash in on the consumers and become what Hollywood thinks every horror movie needs to turn into- A FRANCHISE WITH ENDLESS SEQUELS. It blows my mind that this drivel came out only a year before the horror genre-revitalizing Saw. At least after that we were safe from countless sequ- OH WAIT, SAW DID IT TOO. However, I thought that franchise only started to go off the deep-end with the sixth and seventh installments when the suspenseful story behind the torture porn fizzled out. With Final Destination, it only took a second film to ruin it. Continue reading
CABIN FEVER
♆♆♆- I have already seen this movie.
It has been a long while since I first gathered around the campfire and watched Eli Roth’s classic debut. This is Roth’s first feature film and his breakout into the industry. He has become one of the directors whose name is synonymous with horror. Before there was Hostel, there was Cabin Fever. Continue reading
PROMETHEUS
If you are already familiar with the MASSACRE MARATHON you might have noticed I tend to watch and review some movies I have previously seen. From now on I will do a better job indicating which films are not virgin endeavors at the start of the review. The reason for the repeats is that I don’t want to miss out on classics and favorites every season just for the sake of charting new horror territory. Coincidentally, the characters in tonight’s film find out just how dangerous probing into unidentified territory can be. The territory of our creators, specifically.

AFFLICTED
Found footage has very quickly become its own genre extremely fast in the horror world. That is why you shouldn’t be surprised that within the first four movies I have watched so far two of them fall into this classification. First, The Sacrament, and now Afflicted. I find myself a sucker for these films. Even though I am well aware that most of them will be plot-less garbage I seem to be drawn to the idea of the first-person fright fest experience. I’m glad Afflicted wasn’t a piece of trash.

ANNABELLE
I managed to make it to the theater late tonight after work to see the baby of The Conjuring director James Wan, Annabelle. A little over a year ago when I saw The Conjuring I found that the part that resonated with me the most was the intro sequence featuring the titular demonic doll. I was fairly surprised when I heard they where going to take that and make it into its own feature-length film. I was on board!

THE REAL STORY: AMITYVILLE HORROR
Tonight I had to pick something to watch with a short run-time because I had a prior football obligation. In fact, the poor Vikings probably felt more dread and despair tonight than any horror movie could generate in a soul-crushing 10-42 loss. GO PACKERS!
I decided to pick from a few documentaries on my queue and The Real Story: Amityville Horror happened to have the shortest length. This has been the third or fourth docu-style production I have taken in, not including some of the fictional movies, so I had a feeling it wouldn’t bring anything new to the table. I was mostly right, apart from an interview of the next door neighbors kid that grew up around the DeFeo family before the incident. Continue reading
