The “Thumb Parodies” are somewhat of a curious personal legend. All the way back in 2008, when I first joined Netflix, the series caught my eye and I added the short films to my queue. Ever since then, they have been there waiting, watching me as I added more and more movies in front of them on my list. Well, today they are ignored no longer. I have finally rented The Blair Thumb.

AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON ft. Doom + The Gate

John Landis’ (Animal House, Coming to America) passion project An American Werewolf in London is a comedy/horror hybrid known for its graphic, drawn out werewolf transformation scene. It also is known for shooting practical effects artist Rick Baker into stardom. In fact, Baker won the first ever Oscar for Best Makeup with his contribution to the film. Those things aside, I was a little let down with the overall package.
THE MESSENGERS ft. Malevolent + In the Tall Grass

The Messengers takes me back to the distant time when lead Kristen Stewart (Twilight, Underwater) wasn’t world famous for being a sparkly vampire. God, saying that out loud makes me feel old.
KUSO ft. Unsane + Body Bags

Manster, I am batting a thousand with these opening picks. Well three strikes, I’m out! I think it’s time to watch some classics after this vile start to this MASSACRE MARATHON. Kuso is “IDM” artist Flying Lotus’ debut feature film. I like his music. I hated his movie.
BAD TASTE ft. Castle Freak + Hell House LLC III

Getting off on the wrong foot has a sequel and its name is Bad Taste. An ironic moniker and perhaps an omen glossed over. It turns out watching a renowned filmmakers first film for that reason alone is not always as enjoyable as intended.
THE PRODIGY ft. Hereditary + Aftershock

Not the way I wanted to kick off my favorite season of the year. Despite the low expectations of a quarantined October, The Prodigy made me feel even worse. Alas, I am excited to be released from my chains yet again to bring you horror movie madness all month long with 2020’s incarnation of the MASSACRE MARATHON!!!
The past two years I’ve held onto my marathon results, waiting for the perfect time to unleash my opinions into the putrid air of this hellscape we call home. Well, I no longer prolong…err…! Each night I will be bringing forth, in addition to the main feature, not one but TWO bonus reviews from the not so distant past. These extra musings will most likely only be snippets due to time constraints, but in the future I plan on giving the love and attention deserved to those films that are lucky enough to be rewatched.
RED DRAGON
From director Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men: The Last Stand), Red Dragon is the third film in the “Lecter Trilogy” and the prequel to The Silence of the Lambs. Starring Edward Norton (American History X, Birdman), Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel, Schindler’s List), and of course Anthony Hopkins, the movie reveals how Hannibal Lecter was originally caught and tells the story of “The Tooth Fairy” serial killer. FBI agent Will Graham is brought out of retirement to hunt down the fiend who only kills families during a full moon. Once again the audience is treated to a dialogue with Lecter who is equal parts helpful and hindering with the investigation.
HANNIBAL
The follow-up to the smash hit The Silence of the Lambs features Anthony Hopkins returning to one of his most well-known roles as Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Julianne Moore (Boogie Nights, Magnolia) steps in for Jodie Foster’s FBI agent Clarice Starling, who is under fire for a botched drug raid until a wealthy “beneficiary” pulls strings to get her back on the search for Lecter. Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy) plays the majorly disfigured sole survivor of the devious doctor’s ways who wants Starling to lead Lecter back to him to carry out a sadistic revenge.

HAUNTERS: THE ART OF THE SCARE

Haunters: The Art of the Scare gives a look behind the screams at the creators of “home haunts”, horror themed walk-throughs that pop up around Halloween. They have been getting pretty extreme lately as the hardcore fans have been asking for more and more, but how far it too far?
